Student's Handbook

The Students Handbook reflects the policies and regulations of the Unique Institute of Management affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University, as it applies to all the students of the College.


Library is a Learning Resource Centre

Library collection is in accordance with the needs and demands of the users.

In keeping with the vision and mission of the institute, the library has been established “to facilitate knowledge generation and its application through effective dissemination”.

The library acts as the main learning resource centre of the institute and provides services and facilities to meet the requirements of the institute’s teaching, training, research and consultancy programmes.

It is well stocked with a wide range of books, journals, newspapers, statistical year books, projects and periodicals.

The Institute constantly invests in books and subscribes to journals and databases for the benefit of the students and faculty members. The library is managed by a librarian, assistant librarian and supporting staff.

Rules & Regulations

  • Books of library cannot taken out of the library without the permission of the librarian or authority incharge.
  • Examination of the condition of the books should be checked before the issue of the book.
  • Books should be returned within the period allowed to a borrower.
  • If the date for the return for the book falls on an authorized holiday the book should be returned to the library on the following working day.
  • No scribbling etc on the library books nor shall any picture or page be removed or torn or otherwise disfigured. Students damaging any book in any manner will face penalty.
  • A borrower against whom any fee or charge is outstanding shall not be allowed to borrow books from the Library.
  • If the library book is in the possession of the borrower beyond the time, no books will be issued to him/her until the earlier book is returned to the Library.
  • Silence and discipline should be maintained in the library.
  • The Library should be used for only for reading or consulting books and periodicals.
  • Spitting, smoking, sleeping, eating, gossiping etc inside the Library is strictly prohibited.
  • An unauthorized person will not be allowed to enter in the library.
  • Library card will be used to keep the records of the books, given to them after admisssion in the Institution.
  • Student can borrow only two books for home lending at a time against own library card for 10 days.
  • Books should be returned to the library on or before the due date marked on the date sleep, otherwise, an overdue of Rs.5/- per day per book becomes applicable.
  • Borrower should replace the book which is lost, damaged or defaced. If the book is one of a set or a series and the volume cannot be obtained single, the whole set or series must be replaced at the reader’s cost. If the book is rare or irreplaceable, the borrower must be made to pay three times the cost of the book.
  • In the cases where the price of the lost book cannot be obtained, the student should pay as compensation an amount fixed by the Library Advisory Committee.
  • A person who takes a book from the Library is supposed to abide by the rules. Ignorance of the Library rules will be no excuse for the breach of any rule.
  • Library books are not transferable to any others.
  • For use in the reading room, ordinarily one book at a timemay be issued to every student on a call slip.
  • On loss of his/her Library Card, a duplicate Library Card shall be issued to him/her on payment of a fine of Rs.50.00.
  • If the students deliberately ignore the Library notice to return the long outstanding borrowed books, the matter will be referred to the authority for appropriate penal action.
  • The authority may disallow the entry is the student happens to be a disturbing element.

Computer Laboratory

The institute has computer lab with services directly to students and faculty, and to other stakeholders. The computer lab is equipped with computers with desired configuration and connectivity. The internet is available throughout the campus.

Rules & Regulations

  • Discipline and silence should be maintained within the laboratory, misconduct would attract punishment.
  • For any printout, students are required to take permission from the laboratory in-charge.
  • At the end of the session, the user should logout properly before shutting down the system; else system files may get corrupted.
  • Floppies and CDs are not allowed inside the laboratory.
  • Smoking, beverages etc or any kind of eatables are not allowed inside the laboratory.
  • No Chatting through net is allowed.
  • Students should to adhere to the rules and regulations of the laboratory.


The Institute is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University so it follows the curriculum and the practices defined by them from time to time available on its website. Students may refer their website for the details if any.


Rules & Regulations

  • Mobiles are strictly not allowed in the classroom during the examination hall.
  • Total silence should be maintained in the examination hall & are not permitted to talk to each other in the examination hall.
  • Candidates shall not leave the examination hall without prior permission of the supervisors.
  • Nothing should be written anything on the question paper or admit card.
  • Checking of the candidate shall be done at the entrance to examination centre & in examination hall during the course of examination, as & when necessary.
  • Candidates refusing to check at shall be refused for the entry to the examination.
  • Answer book should be submitted before leaving the examination hall which is the duty of the candidate.
  • If a candidate is found with any misconduct connected or not with examination, he/she shall have to surrender it to the supervisor on demand and can be liable for any action taken.
  • Copying in any form is strictly prohibited.
  • Any candidate accused of misconduct inside or outside the examination hall shall be seriously dealt with & would be liable to expulsion from the examination and/or any other punishment deemed suitable by the authority.
  • Writers/Scribes for the Examinations: This is one of the important needs of an handicapped, blind and disabled students:
    A data base of colleges who are willing to support and the students within the college are contacted during the exams. The student willing to have scribe will have to submit the medical certificate of endorsing doctor.

Summer Internship Programme

Summer Internship Programme (SIP) for MBA students are looked after by the institute. The faculty members of different functional areas are involved in guiding the students on topic of research & study, research methodology, data collection, and analysis. Faculty guide keeps close contact with corporate/ industry guides for regular progress of the Internship programme.

Usually, as per academic schedules the students of MBA programme undertake SIP on completion of during their third trimester ,where the students are expose to real-life business experience in corporate sector and fusion of theoretical knowledge and its practical application. The students are allowed to carry on their project work every year after their second semester from 1st June to 31th July. They can do the summer projects in any organization of their choice, however, they have to consult their internal project guide before they finally choose the organization.

General Rules & Regulations

Institute’s WorkingHours

The institute’s working hours are usually from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday during which time classroom lectures, Lab work, personality growth classes, seminars, etc. are conducted. On special occasions, the faculty and students are asked to stay beyond normal hours and even come on Sunday and holidays as per exigencies.


The notice boards are to be used by the authorized persons to give relevant information concerning their areas of responsibility.

No student shall put up any notice on the board without authorization by the competent authority. No notice should be taken off from the board without authorization by the competent authority. Not having read a notice is not sufficient excuse for any information not received by the students.

Scarring order/instructions of notice will be treated as a punishable offence.

Identity Card

All the students are provided with the Students’ Identity Card issued atthe time of registration/induction as a new entrant to the Institute. The students must display their respective Identity Cards while inside the campus. In absence of the Identity Card, they may not be allowed to attend any official activity in the capacity of a student.

In case of loss ofthe same, they have to pay Rs.100/-as necessary re-issuance charges.


No student shall remain absent from the classes for non-important reasons If a student remains absent for a period of 10 days without the above permission he/she will be deemed as a absconder and necessary action would be initiated by the authority.

The student shall be reinstated only on a satisfactory explanation given by him/her to the Director.

A minimum of 75% attendance is necessary for appearing in End-Term examination.


Students are entitled to enjoy the holidays which are listed in theAcademic Regulation and as per Savitribai Phule Pune University circular. However in case any other holiday will be intimated by the institute time to time. However, there may be extra classes scheduled to complete the syllabus and students are expected to attend these classes.


Students are generally not entitled to take any leave. However, in case of extreme emergencies, they may be granted leave on prior approval basis.

Dress Code

Dress code forms an essential element for the purpose of look and presentability as a budding Manager. A student must be meticulous in choosing his/her dress so that it should not reflect any shortcomings in their behavior as a future corporate executive.


The candidate selected for admission should pay the fees under different heads and as prescribed by Savitribai Phule Pune University and Government of Maharashtra from time to time. The exact amount of the fee payable by the candidate will be intimated at the time of admission. Fee for the MBA course for Academic Year will be as per the norms of Shikshan Shulka Samiti of Govt. ofMaharashtra.


Institute of Management attaches great deal of importance’s to discipline, honesty, integrity and operationalization in academic and personal life of a student. The students are expected to explicit and practice high sense of morality of responsibility and commitment.

The following will constructed breach of discipline and will attract punishment, penalties and may even result as expulsion from the institute

  • Proven case of gross misconduct
  • Providing false and fictions information / data to the institute
  • Habitual late attendance
  • Indulging physical violence, riotous, behaviors, causing damage to institute property
  • Smoking & consuming alcoholic beverage in institute premises like classrooms, library, laboratory, computer centers, etc.
  • No students will be allowed to come to the campus or hostel in an intoxicated condition
  • Not showing proper respect & etiquettes to seniors
  • Theft, misappropriation of money


UIM considers student’s conduct as an important ingredient of discipline. Purposeless movement either individual or in groups, congregation with malafide intention are strictly prohibited this sort of activities give a wrong signals to the outsiders and visitors and tarnishes the good image of the institute. A culture of respect to faculty members, staff and seniors is nurtured and sustained and students must exhibit good mannerisms, etiquettes on and campus.

Mobile Phone

Use of Mobile Phone is strictly prohibited inside the Class Rooms. Students must be very cautious about the use of Mobile Phone. Violation of this rule is considered as breach of discipline and attracts fine or penalty

Anti-Ragging Policy

The institute follows Zero Tolerance Policy towards ragging. Ragging is not tolerated in any form under any circumstance.

Exemplary punishments will be meted out to the students found indulging, abating, instigating the ragging.
